Posture of Heart II: Radical Turn
“Imagine a busy man, whose business hounds him day and night. Only when it is time for Afternoon Prayer does he remember his Maker. And then, from the bottom of his heart, he heaves s sign of regret that he has spent his day on vain matters, and runs to a silent corner and prays. God holds him dear, very dear, and his prayer pierces the firmament.”

I took notes on each page during my quiet, study times. For e.g.: pg. 14: being is key… one sister here, a religious by the way, says if she doesn’t get that contemplative time for prayer and meditation each day, the rest of her day feels shot. Another sister on staff says that doesn’t matter to her. That floored me; because if I don’t have my quiet time in the morning I struggle through the day! Isn’t that one difference between true contemplatives and others—that contemplatives need that quiet time!

p.15 I love that quote from the young boy, Teddy who realized that even milk was holy. That’s holiness: all is holy.

Great that readers are asked to think about their own language for sacred terms: sort of like Gregory Bateson’s, “synonymous language” – some of us receive things visually; others more literally. So we, too, interpret Reality from words, not images. But others from images, not words. Scripture, especially the psalms, allows for this since it offers both.

At once soothing and tremendously challenging. Super examples of Dr. Bach and Mme. Ramotswe.

I plan to use the question in your AfterWord with myself, and my clients.

Thank you so much for sending the new Radical Turn: In my margin notes throughout, I’ve written, “Wow!” Two contemplative priests would love this, and here’s their info, if you’d be so kind as to send….
